Do you think there should be some manner of climbing competition(s) in the Olympics? If so, what suggestions do you have for scoring, course design, judging and related overall parameters of Olympic climbing events. Question Number 7. David Brower, founder of the Sierra Club, recently passed away. Brower, among other things, is credited with conceiving the (U.S.) Wilderness Act and campaigning succesfully to make it law. This is the law under which some portions (not all) of U.S. Forest Service and B.L.M. lands are designated "Wilderness Areas". Permanent structures, including fixed anchors and bolts, are not allowed in protected Wilderness Areas. There is now a major dispute between the Access Fund and the climbing industry, and public land managers regarding this "Bolt Ban". Brower is less well known for the fact that he drilled the first climbing protection bolt in America. Below is this month's survey question: If it came down to an unqualifiable choice between completely revoking the Wilderness Act, or completely banning all bolts in designated Wilderness Areas, which would you choose, and how would you defend your choice to David Brower if you met him in person? Question Number 6. Is the U.S. Forest Service Fee Demonstration program a fair attempt to manage the explosive growth of recreation on federal public lands? Question Number 5. Do you have any anecdotal evidence that suggests how safe gym climbers are when they begin climbing natural rock? Question 3 (and 4). Do you think gym owners have a responsibility to educate customers about the risks of transferring gym skills to natural rock? Question 2. In the first year of climbing activity on natural rock, how are the people who learned on artificial surfaces different from the people who started on natural rock? Question 1. What effect do think the trend toward more people learning on artificial surfaces will have on climbing as it's practiced outdoors on natural rock?
